Lawn Bowls

ANZRI Bowls Carnival, held at Tewantin Noosa Bowling Club, Noosa, QLD, 18 – 29 February 2024
During the morning games, all teams played other states twice. The teams consisted of 2 singles players, 2 pairs players, 2 triples players and 2 Fours Teams.
After completion of the round robin games, NSW were fortunate to have 2 sides make the finals.
Singles, Barry Cartwright NSW played against Bryan Roper from WA, winning 31 to 30.
Winner first to 31. Bryan held game, leading 30 to 26, with Barry lucky enough to win 31 to 30.
A great exhibition of bowls played by both players. In the Fours, the team of, Eddy Rose, Jan Sutherland, Geoff Houlihan and Laura Cooper came up against a strong QLD team.
The game was played over 18 ends with QLD winning, 20 to 15. A great fight back from NSW after trailing 13 to 1.
In the afternoon Test Matches, there were 2 trophies being played for, The Alan Simpson Trophy, consisting of 4 rinks of 4, 16 players for each side.
The other Trophy, the Anderson Trophy, consisted of 1 rink of 4 players from each side.
At the conclusion of the 6 Alan Simpson test matches the results were as follows,
QLD first
WA second
NZ third and NSW 4th
At the conclusion of the Anderson 6 test matches, NSW were victorious clinching the WA Anderson Trophy for a record third time in succession.
This team consisted of, Ian Neill, Bruce Matthews, Craig Brown, substitute, assisted NSW over the Carnival, Alan McNaughton and Robert Walsh.
